Ultrasound

Modern phlebology (study of veins, and diseases of the veins) encounter ultrasound examination as one of the most important diagnostic tools.

We evaluate the superficial saphenous venous system using Terason 3000 ultrasound system. Terason is a world leader in microminituarisation of ultrasound technology.

Saphenous venous system is evaluated for the presence of reflux and deep venous system is screened for possible thrombosis.

Treatment options are usually personalized according to the ultrasound findings.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy, is a method of treatment for varicose and spider veins on the legs. During treatment, a mild sclerosing solution is injected into the veins. The sclerosing agent irritates the walls of the vein, causing it to shrink in size and the vein eventually disappears.

The number of veins injected in one session is variable, depending on the size, number and location of the veins treated.

We use tranilluminating device to visualize and localize varicosities and their origin.

After the procedure the leg is wrapped with elastic bandage and then compression stoking should be used for several days. All regular activities can be resumed immediately. Aerobics and vigorous exercises are not permitted for 7 days after procedure.

Ibuprofen, Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided for the first 48 hours. Tylenol can be used.

Sclerotherapy is very effective and safe for most patients. Please notice that several sessions may be required to achieve complete elimination of varicose and spider veins.

Mini-Phlebectomy

Mini-phlebectomy is an office procedure which is performed under local anesthesia. It allows removing bulging varicose veins trough micro-incisions that usually require no stitches and virtually leave no scars. Mini-phlebectomy is used for the veins too big to be closed down with sclerotherapy.

Usually this procedure is very well tolerated causes only minor discomfort and provides very good cosmetic results.

Patient can return to his daily activities (except vigorous exercises) immediately after procedure is done.

Mini-phlebectomy is often performed in conjunction with Endovenous Laser Treatment.
